Failed Payments

Grace Period

When a subscription payment fails, your account enters a 14-day grace period. During this time:

  • All your current plan features remain available.
  • Paddle will automatically retry the payment.
  • You will receive reminder emails to update your payment method.

⚠️ Warning: If the payment is not resolved within 14 days, your account is automatically downgraded to the Free plan.

Dunning Email Timeline

You will receive three email reminders during the grace period:

DayEmail
Day 1Payment failed — please update your payment method
Day 7Reminder — 7 days remaining to resolve payment
Day 13Final warning — downgrade in 1 day
Day 14+Account downgraded to Free plan

What You See in the App

During the grace period, a red alert banner appears on your billing page showing:

  • A countdown of days remaining in the grace period
  • A button to update your payment method
  • A link to the Paddle management portal

Resolving a Failed Payment

  1. Go to billing settings — Navigate to Settings > Billing in your dashboard.
  2. Click Update Payment Method — Click the alert banner or the Manage subscription button.
  3. Update your payment details — In the Paddle portal, update your card or choose a different payment method.
  4. Payment retries automatically — Paddle will retry the charge with your updated payment method. Once successful, the grace period ends and your subscription continues normally.
