AI Assist
AI Assist helps you write tutorials directly in the editor. It can describe what a screenshot shows and turn that into a step description, or rework text you have already written. Nothing is ever saved automatically — every proposal is shown side by side with the original, and you decide whether to apply it.
Available actions
Describe a screenshot
Hover over a screenshot block and click the wand button ("Describe this step"). AI looks at the screenshot — including your annotations — and proposes a short step description plus an optional caption. Accept it to insert a text block below the screenshot.
If the screenshot came from clarife capture, the app name and window title recorded at capture time are used as extra context for a more accurate description.
Text actions
Hover over a text block and open the AI menu in its top-right corner:

Text actions keep the language of the source text (a rewrite never silently translates). Formatting such as bold, links, and lists is preserved.
Reviewing proposals
Each action opens a preview with the original and the proposal side by side. You can:
- Replace / Insert — apply the proposal to the document
- Regenerate — ask for a new proposal (each generation counts as one action)
- Discard — close without changing anything
ℹ️ Note: An action is counted when a proposal is generated, not when you accept it.
Monthly limits
AI Assist is included in every plan as a monthly allowance of actions:

- The allowance renews with your billing period. On the Free plan (or without an active subscription) it renews on the first day of each calendar month.
- Unused actions do not carry over.
- Your current usage is shown in the AI menu and in Settings → Billing.
- AI Assist actions are completely separate from AI Video credits.
AI Assist in workspaces
For documents in a workspace, AI Assist uses the workspace owner's monthly allowance:
- Each member has a Use AI assist permission, editable by the owner in Settings → Team (default: on for Editors and Contributors, off for Viewers).
- The owner can also disable AI Assist for the entire workspace in workspace settings. When disabled, no workspace content or screenshots are ever sent to the AI provider.
- Your personal documents always use your own allowance.
Privacy
- Block content and screenshots are sent to the AI model provider (OpenRouter) exclusively when you trigger an AI action — never automatically.
- Requests are made with a zero-data-retention setting: your content is not stored by the model provider and is not used to train models.

💡 Tip: AI proposals are a starting point — always review them for accuracy before publishing, especially for technical steps.
